Used Car Buyers Guide - Avoid The Pitfalls

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

Used car dealers are not known for their fair trading, They have a tainted image at best. Fair assumption or not, nobody wants to be turned over. What these dealers get up to would blow you away. Here are two favorite scams the dealers love to play.

BAIT AND SWITCH - As old as the hills but still going strong.

  • A dealer is advertising one of your favorite cars at a really low rate in the paper. You have never seen this car advertised at such a low figure before. Even though you are slightly sceptical, you decide to pop down th see for yourself. What a surprise, the car has already been sold. “Why not have a look at some others models while you’re here?”, says the dealer. You are interested though a little worried so you decide to listen to their spiel. If you ask for some figures the dealer will probably say that the finance manager wiil sort that out.

It is all about getting you through the door. Once you are there the dealers reckon they can control the process.

LESSON

  • Do your research on the manufacturers websites and get to know about all the different options available on the model you are interested in.
  • Having a friend with you can help if the dealer tries to put pressure on you.
  • Check any documents thoroughly before you sign them and as ever, if in doubt, don’t sign.

POOR CREDIT RATING

  • The Finance Manager comes out and tells you that your credit rating is lower than it really is. Because of this the interest rate will be higher so that the loan will be accepted. Making money doesn’t get easier than that!

LESSON

  • Check your credit rating prior to visiting the dealership. Take some proof to show them if they try it on. The figure you are given regarding your credit rating is the same regardless of the identity of the searcher. To find out your credit rating visit Experian or Equifax, both of whom can give you a credit report. If they start getting bullish leave and do not return.

You’ll probably find this info. surprising. Let me tell you, there is plenty more that they get up to. These guys have turned selling into an art form.

These dealers are slick operators. Get the full inside story from an ex-salesman who was sick of the hustle. Get all the information you need on all the stunts they try to get you buying the car. Don’t let them walk all over you.

How to choose a freight forwarder

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

If your business needs to transport goods, then inevitably some day your will need to select a freight forwarder. But what exactly do they do and how do you choose one?

Freight forwarders aid clients preparing price quotations by advising on freight costs, port charges, consular fees, costs of special documentation, insurance costs, their handling fees and recommendations on the best packing method to protect the goods while being transported. Pricing depends on the distance from the place of origin to the destination to special packing requirements such as refrigeration or, for instance, transportation of potentially dangerous materials.

The main objective of freight forwarding services is to deliver goods on time and in good condition on the right destination. Using long established relationships with air, sea, road & rail carriers, freight forwarding services will ensure that the goods will be moved along the most economical route, choosing among the many bids for the one which has the best balance of speed, cost and reliability.

The first thing to think about when choosing which freight forwarding company you will use is the company’s experience with the routes and products like yours. Other selection criteria includes: global coverage and local expertise, reference customers, wide product portfolio, and overall costs.

Global coverage and local expertise. The company should not only have an office in your area but to also have one where your goods originate from (if this is a different location) for easier communication should the need arise. Experience of moving freights, especially goods like yours, along these areas is an additional point. That means they understand how to handle and care for your goods.

Reference customers. Previous clients’ referrals are a good source of information on how capable a freight forwarder is. Good companies will provide references and track records of these readily.

Wide product portfolio. Freight forwarding companies which have been running long will be experienced in utilizing different transport modes available as well as providing additional value-added supply chain services if the need arises.

Overall costs. Although money matters are important, prices should not dictate your choice of freight forwarding  company, as cheaper price may compromise service quality.

Prior to making a list of possible freight forwarders, take note of your objectives, total cost, the coverage necessary for customer service, information technology and reporting needs. Other things like the commodities and their density, target date, location and market, and the kind of product and service level that you need are few of the information freight forwarders may need to know upon meeting.

Randomly select a few known and reliable potentials. Assess their feasibility and quantify potential benefits. Make a list of the services you need and see if any company meets your requirements,. You can narrow down your choices based on the findings you come up with. Further assess their capabilities and experience by asking for references from previous clients and asking for their track records.

Freight forwarding is an integral part of the logistics, haulage & distribution, freight transport and road haulage chain, and if your business moves goods of any type it pays to udnerstand the industry.

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

When buying a used car in California you need to make sure you understand your legal rights should anything go wrong. As long as your used car was sold to you with a express, written warranty you are covered by the California Lemon Law. This is basically the seller or manufacturer’s written promise to repair or replace defective parts for a stated period of time.

In theory if you buy a used car in California you are legally entitled to have the defects repaired or a replacement given as long as you have the aforesaid warranty. However you could still be charged for use prior to the defect arising. This charge is not easy to calculate as there is no set formula as there is with new vehicles.

The list below should help you avoid buying a lemon and if you do get stitched up you will have the relevant paper work to support your claim.

  • Don’t buy a lemon! Check the history of the car!
  • Confirm that the car’s warranty is valid.
  • Check the warranty that is being offered with your used car carefully as warranties are not standard.
  • Always have the car checked by an independent professional. If anything goes wrong you will be glad you did.
  • Take the vehicle for a drive to check out how it runs and don’t be afraid to point out anything to the dealer that you don’tlike.
  • DO NOT BUY  if you have any doubts regarding the vehicle or the way in which the dealer is presenting the car.

It is advisable to speak to a lawyer if any issues cannot be resolved to your satisfaction.

We have all bought a lemon, whether it is a used car or some other product. Buying a used car can be a minefield. You need to do your research and be prepared to haggle hard if you want to get a great car for a great price. If you want to strengthen your negotiating position you need to know what the used car dealer is up to. Get your used car buyers guide and beat the dealer at his own game. Avoid unnecessary stress and save yourself money.

Doing The Proper Research For A New Car

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

The first car most people own is a used car.  They look forward to the time when they can buy their first new vehicle.  Buying a first new car is an exciting and important time in an individual’s life. Let this be your quick car buying tips for women and men.

Next to buying a home, it is one of the most important investments of a lifetime. For that reason it is important to take cautious and carefully researched steps when buying a new car.

The most enjoyable part of buying your first car is finding the right car.  Take your time and do research on the internet to find out about different makes and models of new cars.  By researching you will be able to decide which car suits you best.  Decide if you need a sedan, a compact car, mid-size, or truck. Some of this isn’t rocket science. It’s almost like car buying for dummies.

Once you know what you want to buy, the next thing to do is research the best options in the car category which best suits you.  Continue researching until you have narrowed your vehicle search down as far as possible.  Consult with friends, families, and car experts to find out about their experiences with cars they have owned.  Learn about performance, their favorite cars, and why they liked them.  Use this information to make your decision.

Once you have decided on a vehicle, next research prices.  Don’t even visit a dealership until you know the average invoice price on a vehicle.  Invoice price is the price the dealer pays for the vehicle.  You will not get that price, but you need this information as a bargaining chip.

The dealer needs to make a profit or it will go broke. But once you know that price, you can compare with other sticker prices for the vehicle and have a better idea of what a reasonable price for the vehicle is.

The most important part of buying a new car is research. If you do your research and know what is available, you can go into a dealership knowledgeable and informed, which will be essential in getting the best possible price for your vehicle.

Coloured Van Production affected by Credit Crunch

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

Everyone knows of the reputation that white van men have, but how about red van men? Well because of the European wide shortage of red vans, down to the credit crunch, these could soon die out.

The credit crunch is the reason for the lack of the red vans. Because money is tight from the credit crunch, the overall amount of vans that are being sold is dropping, this has meant that the manufacturers have decreased the amount of coloured vans going into production. More classical colours like white are being produced instead, this means that companies that rely on coloured van might have to change to more traditional colours like white.

It seems like an odd situation, due to the credit crunch, the manufacturers are making less coloured vans, but the coloured vans are the ones people are after but they can’t buy them because they are not being made.

If some companies end up having to change the colour of their vans, it may be for the greater good because they may end up buying a safer colour van. This may sound a little odd, but there have been a series of studies that show that white vehicles are in the least amount of accidents. A number of studies have been undertaken into the colour of cars, one being a study that looked at cars in lighting storms and it found that a white car was less likely to be struck by lightning. Another study found that a white fire engine is far less likely to be involved in a collision than a red one.

We should start trying to claim cheaper car insurance for a white car because according to the RAC, white is the safest car colour.

If you are a company that is in need of specific colour vans, maybe you should try van leasing? There are a huge number of different vans available for lease all in different colours, from minibus leasing to tipper van leasing, there are vans for every purpose and every requirement.

Cars For Cheap

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

Many people treat cars like a status symbol. Private lots and huge car collections are the fantasy of many celebrity watchers. But for some people cheap cars are the way to go. Poor quality doesn’t necessarily follow cheap price. Fun can be had with a less expensive car.

Buy a used car if you want to save some cash. There a much less expensive top model cars, at least when compared to the new versions. High quality used cars have come to be called pre-owned. These pre-owned vehicles have even managed to pull some long time new car buyers into the used car market. Consider top model cars. Even after 10 years a well built Lexus can look and drive like new. Many people always buy late model used cars instead of new ones.Driving Miss Daisy immortalized this concept as Hoak, the driver, kept buying Miss Daisy’s used cars.

Some new cars are pretty inexpensive. The Hyundai Elantra is a quality car under $12,000. Cheap Honda Cars: A car like the Honda Civic weighs in at about $15,000 for one of the best engineered cars in the world. They get best gas mileage, last a long time, and retain original value very well. These cars are also much cheaper to maintain than luxury cars that often require more expensive parts and even premium grades of gas.

Try the cheaper, not really cheap, luxury cars. The Audi brand is generally at the bottom portion of the price spectrum in the luxury class. Nobody beats Audi as far as engineering. A less expensive luxury sports car is the Audi TT.

Cheap Cars 4 Sale: Of course some people want cheap, cheaper, cheapest. They don’t care if the car is held together with chewing gum and wire. Teens often buy this style of car. It’s a set of wheels, and it gives them practice for a life time of practical mechanical knowledge. What you see is what you get, even with cheap cars. It may not seem like such a deal when it won’t start on a cold winter morning.

Dangers of Unsafe Brakes

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

There are parts to your car that you need to keep aware of. In today’s times when autos have everything automatically, most of the times your cars maintenance gets neglected.  Believe me I have seen it all owning a San Diego auto repair shop.

After all, with cars that used to be cheap cars, like Hyundai’s being state of the art driving machines, it is easy to think nothing can go wrong with them.

That is a huge mistake.  There are still parts of your car that need to be maintained and paid attention to.  Most car owners usually do take care of oil changes.  Although that is important for the life of your car, what most people neglect is their brakes.  Which is of extreme importance to their life and their family’s lives.

So let’s take a look at your brakes and knowing when it is time to change them because they have become unsafe.

First sign of brakes needed to be replaced is when they grind or scratch.  Usually this is an indicator that the metal plate that holds the brake pad is gone and now you have it rubbing against the rotor.  This is a bad sign and you definitely need to replace your brakes immediately.

Second symptom is when your brakes make a loud screeching or a high pitch noise.  This happens by a condition they call glazed.  This happens when a person constantly does excessive braking causing the rotors to get too hot.  The rotors are then burned.

You fix this by going to a brake shop like my San Diego brake shop.

A third condition that happens to your brakes is vibrations.  If you have warped rotors and drums, braking will cause a vibration. This happens when their is too much heat and this causesthem to lose their shape.  When it occurs, your rotor has to be replaced.

The last problem to take notice of is when your brakes start to pull. What occurs when you are braking is your vehicle want to pull in one direction.  This occurs when the brake calipers are not being applied evenly.  A fluid leak is what causes this.  To find out which side is leaking, you are going to need a mechanic to take a look at it.  How you fix this is by replacing the caliper removing all the air out of the brakes.

These are the usual problems that brakes have.  When this does happen you need a shop that fixes brakes like we fix San Diego brakes.

When you realize it’s your brakes that stop you from accidents, you never want to neglect this part of your car’s maintenance.

If your child takes driver’s ed classes and training for emergencies, the odds of an accident are significantly reduced. They get even better when your teenager waits a year or more before beginning to drive. Certain safety features may save you money since many insurance companies take these factors into account when calculating insurance costs. There are insurance companies that will give lower rates to people who have demonstrated that they can be responsible behind the wheel.

Research is the key to finding the best coverage for your child at the most economical price. Decide on a plan that works for you, call an agent and beginning getting estimates. One of the most efficient ways to get quotes for teen insurance is to search online from several different companies.
